This is the first step in The Hindsgaul Approach. From twenty years on movie sets, I have learned that the most important part of any look isn't the styling product you see at the end. It is the state of the hair before we even begin styling.
Most people approach their hair by adding. We add powder for texture, sprays to lock it in, oils for shine, and creams for hold. But when you layer lots of products, your hair collapses under its own weight which hinders its natural movement and volume.
Throughout the week, your hair collects what I call "invisible weights." These are the microscopic layers of fillers from traditional products, environmental pollutants, and the natural oils produced by your scalp.
These weights pull at the root, dragging down the natural lift you were born with. If your hair feels heavy or refuses to respond to styling, it isn't a lack of product; it is a foundation that is physically over-burdened and being pulled down by gravity. .
For a weightless and moving foundation, you have to start with what I call a Clean Canvas.

Creating a Clean Canvas is about resetting the hair and scalp to set you up for a low-maintenance week. By resetting, you do to things: 1) lift away insible weights to allow your hair to move freely, and 2) provide moisture to your hair for softness and shine. When the hair is unburdened and nurtured, it feels airy and unrestricted - in other words: it moves beautifully.
CLEANSING Once a week, I use this exfoliating salt scrub reset. This isn't just about a gentle surface cleaning. It is designed to lift away the invisible weights that regular shampoos leave behind. By focusing on the scalp, you are clearing the path for the hair to move and stand up at the root.
NURTURING Once the hair is cleansed, it is in its most receptive state. I designed this concentrated infusion of Scandinavian botanicals to integrate with the hair, providing the necessary moisture and flexibility to prevent breakage without adding a new layer of weight.
Starting with a Clean Canvas once a week or as needed, changes the math of your morning routine. When you have a clear foundation, you are setting the stage for movement and style that last all week.
The next step is to learn how to style for lightness and a soft hold that lasts without forcing your in place with control. For that romantic, lived-in look with a subtle rebellous touch to it, you really want to be able to run your fingers through your hair at all times.
Continue to Step 2 | Style to learn how to simply build invisible memory in your hair so it looks great in all weather conditions, feels soft at alls times, and bounces back day after day.
